The gig next week, specifically on the 6th of May, is gonna be a bit special methinks. Here’s why

April & I

My good friend Paul Steel released his first album in 2007 and made a companion film about it. And as I’m playing in a Cinema of sorts I’m gonna be screening it, cos it’s great. Here’s a bit about it…

April & I…an animated movie by Paul Steel

Released in 2007 on Raygun Records, ‘April and I’ tells the story of Paul’s relationship with his real-life childhood imaginary friend April (whom he still keeps regular contact with we hear) and the covers the subjects of suicide, school bullies and honkin’ (on his crackpipe). Meanwhile anything and everything is fired at the studio wall and what sticks (mostly everything) sticks. For instance, the classic Spector-esque sound of ‘Take It Or Leave It’ merges invisibly into the pounding Queen meets Bonkers hardcore of ‘School Bully’ before seamlessly morphing back to calm and the beauty of ‘I Gave Her My Number’. Elsewhere, the lunatic ‘Honkin’ (On My Crackpipe)’ sounds like The Small Faces fronted by Elvis Costello covering the theme to The Flumps. By the sound of it, it probably looked like that too.

India Bourne

Also the amazing India Bourne will be opening the night. India is mostly known as being part of Ben Howard’s band, but she’s making waves with her own music and it’s an honour to have her on the bill.

So that’s that.

Oh also I’ll again be singing with the London Contemporary Voices Choir, which was pretty awesome last time.

Don’t miss out.

Hey all

This is kind of a blog, kind of news. So I’m putting it in both categories. deal with it.

At last the sun has returned. Hurrah! I don’t know about you but I feel as though my soul has finally awoken after a long cold hibernation. I never knew I like the sun this much.

Anyway, back to my dreary music!

I’ll start with another thank you.

Thank you for the amazing response to my new E.P.! Yeeepeee.

So many of you have taken to the twitter and facebookmospheres to air your enjoyment of the songs, so thank you all for making me feel warm and mushy and for sharing your love with friends. What is love if it isn’t shared anyway. right?

Yea so thanks.

Oh and you can now get the C.D. from my bandcamp shop

lukesitalsingh.bandcamp.com

Cinema Museum

I’ve nearly finished my first UK wide (ish) headline tour and so far it’s been the best thing ever.

I wanted to finish the tour with a bang and so for the last two London dates I’ve invited the London Contemporary Voices Choir to join me on stage for a few numbers. I’ve heard them rehearsing and it sounds incredible.

Here’s a video of them singing Imogen Heap’s song Hide and Seek, which coincidently, is one of the songs that inspired Fail For You back in the day.

If you want to come see me sing with this amazing choir there are still a few tickets left for the Cinema Museum show on 6th May.

Tickets here.

I’ll leave it there.

Thanks for reading.

You rock…in a singer/songwritery way.

Bye

Luke x

London is a big place. Too big just to play one huge show on a tour, which is what most people do. I like small, intimate shows where we can look each other in the face. I like playing in venues with character and charm.

So as part of my April headline tour I’m going to be playing a 4 week London residency (of sorts), with 4 shows spread out across the city and all in totally unique venues.

First off I’m playing at Servant Jazz Quarters (Wed. 17th April) in Dalston, a super-cool venue.

Then it’s over to Farringdon to play an intimate gig at the Slaughtered Lamb (Tues. 23rd April). Played here last year and loved it, a perfect space for me to perform.

Next up is a beautiful new venue called Bush Theatre (Mon. 29th April). I have a feeling this show is gonna be one of my career’s highlights as the room is utterly gorgeous. You gotta see it.

The run culminates with a show at The Cinema Museum in Kennington (Mon. 6th May). A real one of a kind place. I might even get a chance to curate a short film on the night..

An exclusive print with be made for the tour, which everyone who comes can have for free. Boom.

I’m currently on tour through Europe opening gigs for a great Irish band called Villagers. The tour is just over halfway through now and I’ve been travelling on trains.

Lots of trains.

When I’m on a train for 6-8 hours at a time it makes me think. In fact when I’m stuck anywhere for 6-8 hours I’m probably gonna do a bit of thinking, but there’s something about trains.

Something about the movement and the consistent speed.

Something about the passing world, which in Europe is a world I’ve never seen. Houses I don’t recognise and street names I can’t pronounce, people I don’t know, languages I can’t speak.

Something about the lives and all the living that keep coming and going and coming and going again as I watch through the window. So many different lives. All so detailed and rich.

Stories. So many stories. Stories with beginnings and endings but mostly middles. Stories of friends and enemies, mistakes and glories, life and death.

Stories I’ll never be a part of. Stories I’ll never hear, and can only imagine for the briefest moment before the train rolls on and a hundred more pass me by.

There’s something about trains that make me think about these stories

and my own story

and how I’m writing it.

Old Flint E.P.

Somehow amidst all the wonderful chaos of last year, new songs were written and new recordings were made, and now finally I am far beyond giddy to announce my second E.P. Old Flint will be out on the 15th April.

I teamed up with Iain Archer (Jake Bugg) & Dave Lynch (Duke Special) again on this one and we slaved away for a week in a beautiful old flint barn in Sussex wrestling and coaxing these songs into place. My hope is that the character and warmth of that creaky old barn can be found in the music.

You can pre order the E.P. now on iTunes (click here) and sample all the songs in their 90 second glory!

    E.P. Track List

1. Bottled Up Tight

    2. Inaudible Sighs

    3. Blinding Life

    4. Dark

We are thinking up some lovely exclusive souvenirs for you guys and will have them available soon too.

Bottled Up Tight

My next single will be a song called Bottled Up Tight, which is one of my oldest songs. It’s a song about the head and the heart and their ever complicated relationship.

It’s been through so many iterations over the years but I think it’s brand new clothes suit it well.

It was played by Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 last night, and is streaming now on The Line Of Best fit, which you can find here.

Listen out for it on various radio shows and if you’re feeling spritely why not request it if people still do that.

We shot the video last week in Paris, which was great fun. Utterly freezing but great fun. Watch this space…
